Laser Hair Removal

LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Laser Hair Removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light that stop the growth of hair. The light is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the follicle that produce the hair. The damage inhibits or delays future hair growth. Hair grows in different cycles and you will need multiple treatments for best results. We use the award winning Candela laser hair removal system here at Lana Gray International. This allows us to work on all skin types.

Advantages of laser hair removal:

  • Fast
  • Less painful than electrolysis
  • Can treat ingrown hairs
  • Permanent hair reduction
  • Normal shaving is permissible between sessions

Disadvantages of laser hair removal:

  • Not suitable for blond, red, or gray hair
  • No tanning for 2 weeks before treatment
  • No tanning for 4 weeks after treatment

FAQ’S ABOUT LASER

The main difference between laser hair removal and the traditional method known as electrolysis, is that lasers can treat multiple hair follicles at one time, no longer requiring the need to identify and probe each individual hair follicle, as is done with electrolysis. The FDA has provided clearance that indicates lasers can achieve a permanent hair reduction in hair growth based on clinical tests with patients who have had their hair reduction two years after treatment completion. Most people need an average of 6 to 8 treatments. Hair grows in cycles and subsequent treatments are necessary to treat the follicles that are lying dormant below the surface of the skin. These dormant follicles contain little pigment and are often not affected by the first treatment. The combination of the two technologies is very often the “BEST” option.

Unfortunately, individuals with blonde, white, gray, and red hairs are not good candidates for laser since these hair colors don’t have much or any pigment in them, which doesn’t allow them to absorb the light as well. Our award winning Candela hair removal system works on all skin types which is wonderful. The system contains both a YAG laser for darker skin types and the Alexandrite laser for the lighter skin type clients.

As with any other treatment of this nature, there will be potential side effects. Risks of these side effects are minimized if treatment instructions are followed. Individuals should inform their operator of any changes to their medication or medical history. If you are pregnant, are taking antibiotics or are on Retin-A/Accutane, you will need to delay treatments.
